Dr.M.G.R University

Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust, was founded in the year 1985 with the objective of dissemination of know-ledge in the fields of Engineering Technology, Management, Medicine and Law.

To achieve this objective Dr.MGR Engineering College, Chennai-600 095 was started in the year 1988. A Dental College under the name of Thai Moogambigai Dental College also was started in the year 1991.

Both these colleges have good infrastructural and instructional facilities and are well equipped. All the courses in the Engineering Colleges are ACCREDITED by the National Board of Accreditation, AICTE, Government of India.

In recognition of the good work done in the realms of research and development by Dr.MGR Engineering College, Chennai and Thai Moogambigai Dental College, Chennai,

Deemed University status has been granted to two colleges in the name and style of Dr.MGR EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE (Deemed University) , Chennai, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission, Government of India. (MHRD, Gol Notification No. F.9-1/2002-U.3 dt. 21.01.2003 and UGC Notification F.6.6/2002(CPP-I) dt. 13.03.03

It is my pleasure to congratulate you on your enrolling yourself as a student in our group of institutions, which are well known for the discipline, quality education and personality development.

Our students have excelled not only in academic activities by obtaining many University ranks but also have proved their mettle by taking part in curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The Cardinal objectives of our program have been achieved and have yielded rich dividends, benefits and good results. Its my pleasure to applaude the students and staff members for effectively bringing laurels and great honours. My kudos to all of them for their achievements.

More new courses of Advanced Studies in Bio-Technology, Bio-medical Instrumentation, Computer Science and Networking and Communication are now being provided for intensive learning and experience of the students and for developing professionalism in them.

The students are exposed to the latest trends in industries and business through workshops, exhibitions, trade fairs, seminars, industrial visits, etc., They are also given chances to work with the faculty on research and real life consultancy projects related to the latest developments.

We renew our commitment to the student community to realize the vision of the future as hailed by our respectful Scientist , His Excellency, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, the President of India, who visited our college recently, and inspired all of us into greater involvement and moments of glory.

HIS EXCELLENCY Dr. A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM, President of India, had an interaction with our university students on 6 th February 2004,in his address he stressed that our students should become “JOB PROVIDERS RATHER THAN JOB SEEKERS”. India has great competence in the emerging areas such as Information Technology, BIO-Technology, NANO-Technology etc. By 2020, India should become a developed nation. To achieve this, he said “we have to develop capacity for research, the capacity for creativity and innovation, the capacity for entrepreneurial leadership and capacity for moral leadership”.

He emphasized that the Engineering, Science and Humanities graduates passing out of our University should dedicate themselves to contribute to the mission of developed India 2020 by working in the PURA-programme, which envisages creation of rural wealth and prosperity. He concluded by exhorting the student community to seek wisdom from Almighty to lead us in the path of righteousness through education.

Our University education is designed based on the flexible Credit System, with high standards so that the character and personality of the students would be developed with strong knowledge base and skill inputs to face challenges in real life.
