Content Window The Department of Physical Education is looking after the activities of the Deemed University and the constituent Dr.M.G.R. Engineering College. Thus the department is taking care of the students of three different Universitities, namely, Madras University, Anna University and Dr.M.G.R. Deemed University. The following are the activities organized and the achievement of the department of Physical Education. Finall Year Four final year students participated in the Madras University Best Physique competition held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during August 2003 and one student was ranked 11th in the competition. II and III Years Our college Anna University teams participated in the following disciplines: Basketball In the Anna University Zonal tournaments, Our basketball team participated and placed fourth in the finals. Four of our students, Prabhu, Muthiah, Manohar and Mathew John were selected to represent Anna University Zone I in the Zonal meet at Arunai Engineering College, Thiruvannamalai 9th, 10th and 11th of September 2003. Table Tennis Our College Table Tennis team participated in the Anna University Zoe I tournament at Velammal Engineering college. Chess Our College Chess team participated in the Anna University Zone I Meet and Anand Subramani8an of II yr Mechanical was selected for the nter Zonal meet. Football Our College Football Team participated in the Anna
University Zone I tournament at Velammal Engineering College on 12th,
13th and 14th August 2003 and were adjudged as winners. They brough
Anna University Rolling Trophy and medals. The winning team was provided
with blazers and sent to JJ College of Engineering, Trichy for participating
in the Inter Zonal tournament on 18th, 19th and 20th October 2003.
The team lost to Zone II by 1-0. Cricket Our College Cricket team participated in the Anna University Zone I Meet on 24th, 25th and 26th September 2003 at Hindu College, Avadi. Our team managed to get third position and bronze medals. Eight students of our college were selected to participate in the Inter zonal matches and they lost in the semi finals on 27th October 2003. The final lists of selected players to represent Anna University in all the above games are awaited. Handball Our college was given the honour of hosting the Anna University One Zone Handball matches for girls and boys. The matches were held in our college campus on 6th and 7th September 2003. More than 100 boys and girls of various other Engineering colleges from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the tournaments. Our boys team lost in the semi finals and twol players were selected for the Anna University. Our girls team secured third position with bronze medals. Two girls of our college were selected for the Anna University team. First Years · Our First Year students have Health Science
as a subject of study in their curriculum. All the sectionsl have
one theory hour and two practical/activity hours per week. In the
theory, health and fitness is taught. In the practical hours, the
boys and girls are taught Aerobics, conditioning, optional games,
indoor games and yoga, They consider the time in the grounds as a
break from the class room activities and enjoy them. In the first
cycle test, more than 90 percent of the students secured marks above
50 percent. BLOOD DONATION CAMP ON THE EVE OF 51ST BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR BELOVED CHAIRMAN A REPORT A Blood Donation Camp was organized on the eve of the 51st Birth Anniversary of our beloved Chairman. It was organized in cooperation with Jeevan Blood __, Nungambakkam, Chennai – 600 006 on 26th September 2003 in our Dr.M.G.R. Deemed University, inaugurated the camp at 9.30 a.m. Prof. V. Job Kuruvilla, Principal In-charge, Dr.M.G.R. Engineering College and Mrs. R. Kalavathy, Special Officer, Dr.M.G.R. Engineering college and Joint Registrar (Finance), Dr.M.G.R. Deemed University and many eminent Guests and HODs of various Departments were present during the inauguration. Mrs.Sheela Renganathan, the Executive of Jeevan Blood __ expressed her sincere happiness over the voluntary participation of our students and staff in the blood donation camp. The camp went on till 2.30 p.m. Out of many volunteers, only 106 were allowed to donate blood after a careful screening of the essential physiological and physical parameters obligatory for donating blood. The NSS volunteers of Dr.M.G.R. Engineering College were present at the campsite throughout the progression of the camp by helping the organizers and the donors right from filling up the forms to helping them to have their snacks after the donation of blood. The general opinion of the students and staff was that they were very cheerful and gently treated during the camp by the joining organizers. The camp was a successful one and this may be continued as an annual feature.
